Cosmo Clock 21 & Landmark Tower, Yokohama

The Perfect 1-Day Yokohama Itinerary

Yokohama is compact and walkable enough to see in a single well-paced day: the Minato Mirai waterfront in the morning, the Red Brick Warehouse and Yamashita Park at midday, then Chinatown, Motomachi, and Yamate in the afternoon and evening. Every leg here is a short walk rather than a train ride, so it’s easy to slow down anywhere that catches you. Sankeien Garden, a little further out, is worth adding on if you have more than a day or want to split the trip in two.

  1. Yokohama Minatomirai Line Y500 series train1

9:00 AM — Tokyo to Yokohama

Yokohama Station is under 30 minutes from central Tokyo on several JR lines (Tokaido, Yokosuka, or Shonan-Shinjuku Line) or the Tokyu Toyoko Line, with trains running frequently all morning — no need to book ahead. From Yokohama Station, transfer to the Minatomirai Line for one more stop to Minatomirai Station, right in the middle of the waterfront district where the day begins.

  2. Sail Training Ship Nippon Maru, Minato Mirai, Yokohama2

9:45 AM — Nippon Maru, Minato Mirai

A short walk from Minatomirai Station brings you to the Nippon Maru, a four-masted sail training ship built in 1930 and nicknamed the 'Swan of the Pacific.' Walk the deck and below-deck quarters before continuing on — it's a striking, quiet start to the day against the surrounding high-rises.

10:00 AM – 5:00 PM, last entry 4:30 PM (closed Mondays)2-1-1 Minato Mirai, Nishi-ku, Yokohama
  3. Cosmo Clock 21 & Landmark Tower, Yokohama3

    10:30 AM — Cosmo Clock 21

A few minutes on from the Nippon Maru, Cosmo Clock 21 is a 112.5-meter Ferris wheel with an actual clock built into its structure. A full rotation takes about 15 minutes, long enough for an unhurried 360-degree view over the harbor before the day's walking really begins.

11:00 AM – 8:00 PM (weekdays); 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM (weekends & holidays), hours vary seasonally2-8-1 Shinko, Naka Ward, Yokohama, Kanagawa 231-0001
  4. CUPNOODLES MUSEUM, Yokohama4

    11:15 AM — CUPNOODLES MUSEUM

Just past Cosmo World, the CUPNOODLES MUSEUM commemorates instant ramen inventor Momofuku Ando. Book a slot at the hands-on My CUPNOODLES Factory if you want to design and seal your own cup — it's popular, so an 11:15 arrival helps beat the midday queue.

    10:00 AM – 6:00 PM, last admission 5:00 PM (closed Tuesdays)2-3-4 Shinko, Naka-ku, Yokohama 231-0001
  5. Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse5

1:00 PM — Lunch & the Red Brick Warehouse

A 10-minute walk along the water brings you to the Red Brick Warehouse, a pair of early-1900s customs buildings converted into shops and restaurants. Have lunch in Warehouse No. 2, then browse the shops in No. 1 before continuing down the waterfront.

Warehouse No. 1: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM; Warehouse No. 2: 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM; free to enter1-1 Shinko, Naka Ward, Yokohama, Kanagawa 231-0001
  6. Hikawa Maru museum ship, Yamashita Park, Yokohama6

2:30 PM — Yamashita Park & the Hikawa Maru

Continue along the harbor to Yamashita Park, where the Hikawa Maru, a 1930 ocean liner turned museum ship, sits permanently moored. Its preserved 1930s interiors are worth 30 to 45 minutes, and the park itself is a pleasant place to slow down before the afternoon's neighborhoods.

    9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, last entry 4:30 PM (closed Mondays)279 Yamashita-cho, Naka Ward, Yokohama, Kanagawa 231-0023
  7. Zenrinmon Gate, Yokohama Chinatown7

    3:30 PM — Yokohama Chinatown

A few minutes' walk from Yamashita Park brings you to Yokohama Chinatown, Japan's largest, its streets packed with several hundred restaurants and shops. Pass through Zenrinmon Gate and spend an hour wandering rather than trying to see it all at once — you'll be back this evening for dinner.

  8. Berrick Hall, Yamate, Yokohama8

    5:00 PM — Motomachi & Yamate

From Chinatown, walk south to Motomachi, a boutique shopping street, then climb the hillside into Yamate, Yokohama's former foreign residential quarter. Berrick Hall and the other preserved Western-style houses here are open until early evening and give a genuinely different feel from the rest of the day.

  9. Xiaolongbao, Yokohama Chinatown9

6:30 PM — Dinner in Chinatown & Back to Tokyo

Head back down through Motomachi to Chinatown for dinner — steamed buns, xiaolongbao, and street snacks from small stalls are an easy, sociable way to close out the day. From Chinatown, it's a short walk to Motomachi-Chukagai Station and a direct ride back to Tokyo on the Minatomirai and Toyoko lines.
